Sometimes I think about words.
And I wonder if Adam and Eve had to learn a language or if they came straight out of the dust speaking, hearing and understanding. Or if they were the first to create sounds that became words. I know Adam named the animals. Could you imagine? That one looks like a three-syllable word that sounds like going up and over a hill <<elephant>>. And that one makes a big roar with his mouth wide open <<LIOOOOOOOOON>>. And that one is so sweet and gentle <<deer>>. If you think about it that way, they all kind of make sense… at least in English, which didn’t exist yet… so who really knows? I’m just imagining the process I might follow. I am now imagining my head going slowly up the neck of a <<Giraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaafe>>. I might have called that one “cat”, though. Caaaaaaaaaat.
I have been to a drive-thru zoo. It was pretty cool. I saw big wolves and llamas <<sounds like a bobbing head puffy fuzz ball>> and tigers and bears. The bears were everywhere. They were in the road even. There were a lot of other things that I remember seeing, but right now I can’t recall what they were. It was pretty cool though. We got a military discount, but the gate person just asked if we were qualified and didn’t want to see ID. Its legit, but anyone could say they were eligible and get the discount, but I guess that goes in their “permanent file” if they lie. And I’m not talking about Santa’s naughty list. I’m talking about the one that counts long term.
I mention the actual facility called a DRIVE-THRU ZOO, because in a lot of ways, I live in a drive-thru zoo. Every morning, without fail, I see some combination of cats (feral, domestic – even bobcats), rabbits, deer, raccoons, wild hogs, cows, horses, armadillos, alligators, squirrels, snakes, turtles, birds – Vultures and turkeys mostly, but I’ve actually seen a real beep-beep roadrunner twice and some bald eagles, wolves, foxes and so many spiders. It would have been something to come up with all those varied and different sounds and syllables to name the animals. If it was up to me, they might all rhyme with “cat.” Mat, Pat, Rat, Brat, Prat, Spat… you get it. Pretty sure “Spat” would be a bird.
All in all, it’s never boring driving down my road.
Back to the word thing…. think about all the “linky: words and adjectives: and, plus, or, but, blue, red, fast, funny – and that doesn’t even nick the surface of adverbs, etc. I don’t know how many languages there are in the world, but I know a good bit of them even have a different alphabet. The very basics of so much intricacy in languages should convince you of the existence of GOD. What humans could have that much patience and imagination?
And then to get everyone to agree on the words, usage, rules. I would be more capable of building an Egyptian pyramid that starting a language. And I would have started to get bored once I got to insects, so it’s better that I just drive thru all this stuff. Oh look those Klats have 2 humps, and the Grats are making honey.
Until Next Time,
Your Friend, Tracy
